The Divine Italian Caffe

Saturday January 21, 2017 from 3:00-4:30 PM
Free Tasting Event

Otherwise known as espresso, Italian caffee is not meant to be sipped slowly for hours. You stop at the bar en route to work or school for a quick shot, and you usually don’t even sit down for it. But for this January's tasting event, please join us instead for a leisurely afternoon of espresso, social time and many delightful varieties of biscotti from Petonito's Italian Pastry Shop.

Made with our signature blend, One World's espresso begins with slow-roasting each type of bean to develop its natural flavor characteristic. The result is rich, dark brew with hints of cocoa and cherry.

One World's owner and roaster, Eric Ciolino, talks about the history of Italian espresso, its influence throughout the world, and optimal brewing methods.

Sampling Two Brews: A Pre-Holiday Coffee & Beer Tasting

Friday December 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM

One World Roasters heads to New England Brewing Company in Woodbridge for some of the best locally brewed beer and a little happy hour holiday cheer. Join us this festive winter evening when we’ll be giving out samples of our new darkly roasted coffee from Takengon, Sumatra.

And don't forget to try all the great beers on tap including a brand new imperial coffee stout using OWR’s specially selected beans! Sebastian D'Agostino, Master Brewer at New England Brewing Company describes his experience working with One World ....

"We wanted to make sure that it was something local and great quality. All the coffees were fantastic and the fact that it’s so small batch that we could request specifically what we wanted. That’s what we’re looking for—not something mass-produced or from the West Coast that no one’s going to be able to get at the store. We wanted something that people would be able to see was from a local roaster and available to them."

Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony Workshop

Sunday March 29

One World Roasters, 967 N. High Street, East Haven CT

10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Seating is limited. RSVP by March 22 to

For centuries in Ethiopia, the traditional coffee ceremony has been a community experience that reinforces social ties and a great honor bestowed upon a visiting guest. In addition to being a social tool, the ceremony also originated as a sacred ritual, performed exclusively by women, to honor the goddess and the earth. From these humble beginnings, coffee consumption has now spread worldwide to almost every culture.

One World Roasters traces the development of coffee from its early rituals to the modern coffee house where coffee is consumed in a very different way. The characteristics of Ethiopian roasts are also discussed during a tasting of coffee from the Sidamo region.

Weather permitting, this event takes place outside with coffee beans roasted over a fire. Otherwise, the event is held indoors with a demonstration of coffee roasted in a gas-fired drum roaster.

Offerings accepted of either $5 or a food item to share during a potluck lunch at 12 PM.

Tea and Raw Chocolate Tasting

February 13th. 7;30 - 9pm.

The Super Taste of Raw Chocolate

Join us this month as One World Roasters pairs up with Aruna Chocolates for two tastings. We will explore two distinctly diffrent speciality coffees one sweet one non sweet and another pairing with finely-brewed loose-leaf teas.

Kerry Lucier, founder of Aruna Chocolates, creates delicious raw delights in the form of truffles, chunks, cups or bars. But no matter which shape or flavor, all Aruna chocolates are organic, made in small batches and provide amazing health benefits earning them the designation of a "superfood." At the tasting events, participants may sample chocolates with other superfoods & herbs such as Chlorella, Spirulina, Maca, Coconut, Goji Berries, Shilajit or Bee Pollen. Lucier will also give a brief talk in his ongoing effort to educate consumers about Nature's number-one high-energy food. Find out for yourself if cacao is really the superfood it's purported to be! Both events are $10

Coffee and Raw Chocolate Tasting

February 7th. 2 - 4pm.

Oh, how sweet it is! During the month of February, One World Roasters pairs up with Aruna Chocolates to explore the super-sweet taste of raw chocolate and two distinctly different specialty coffees... one sweet and one not-so-sweet.

Roasting coffee is a complicated process whereby hundreds of organic compounds within a single coffee bean can react differently to the process of roasting. Generally speaking, as it is roasted, coffee gets sweeter up to a point. Once you begin to carbonize some of the starches in the bean, this carbonization can begin to negate the sugars. Join roaster, Eric Ciolino, as he talks about arriving at a time and a temperature which can ceate a desired sweetness in a coffee.

From Mountain to Cup: Specialty Coffee Tasting & Forum

Tasting & Forum 2 to 4 PM, Greenhouse Tour 4-5 PM, 1/17/15

New Haven coffee expert Eric Ciolino of One World Roasters, Connecticut's organic, fair-trade coffee roaster, will share his “mountain to cup” knowledge in a lively tasting and information session on January 17th from 2-4 PM at Yale’s Marsh Botanical Garden. Ciolino, who frequently travels to coffee-producing regions of the world, will be featuring his Dominican roast at the tasting. He will be joined by guest speakers discussing the history of coffee and the benefits of growing organic foods. The tasting is followed by a tour of the Marsh greenhouses’ plant collections from 4-5 PM.

The event represents a collaboration between Ciolino and longtime friend Eric Larson, manager of the Marsh Botanical Garden. Larson says, "Our mission statement has to do with support of research, support of instruction, and outreach in the maintenance of green space. Yale tries to be a good neighbor, so it's part of that effort to give back to the community, and that's why we make it available for things like this."
