COMMUNITY BLENDS: COFFEE FOR A CAUSE

It's no secret; we love coffee. We care very deeply about it – finding it, roasting it, blending it, and certainly serving it fresh to our amazing customers (at our coffeehouse).

... But that isn't all we're about ... far from it! Beyond our love for the craft, there's another reason we started doing this all: we noticed that fair trade and organic coffee wasn't readily available in our area and we wanted to change that and make it affordable to all who wanted it. As we've said before, coffee is one of the most heavily pesticide treated crops in agriculture, and if people don't have a choice to buy organic coffee, there can be health consequences down the line. And, if we don't consider our impact on both farmers and the environment, as the Fair Trade certification accounts for, we're making coffee an unsustainable privilege rather than a force for good in the world.

We started One World Roasters to make great coffee, but also to make a difference at every level possible, and, now, we're proud to extend that philosophy to our individual coffees. Introducing OWR's Community Blends — A line of limited-batch, one-of-a-kind coffee creations that support causes we care about.

Support the Shoreline Greenway Trail

In December 2022, One World Roasters offers a limited-batch “Wintergreen Blend” in support of our outdoor trails and to inspire people to explore the great outdoors this winter. 30 percent of proceeds from this new blend goes to the Shoreline Greenway Trail, a 25-mile nature trail extending from New Haven to Madison (with East Haven along the way).

So what does the coffee taste like? Customers can expect a rich, medium-dark roast blend with earthy chocolate and smoky spice notes — a pairing of flavors and beans owner and master roaster Eric Ciolio believes is specially suited to the brisk winter months.

“In wintertime wine and beer lovers often go for the heavier flavors and body of a cabernet or a stout; we applied the same idea to our Wintergreen Blend,” says Ciolino. Beginning with a base of Mandehling Sumatra coffee beans smoked over hickory chips, the Wintergreen Blend offers a unique flavor profile and warmth that one might need for December’s colder weather.

One World Roasters is currently selling their Wintergreen Blend in 12 oz. bags in their cafe, on their local orders page and in their online store, which offers free delivery for local New Haven County orders. Ciolino encourages anyone curious about the blend to place an order as soon as possible. “It’s a limited small-batch coffee available until December 31.” The Wintergreen blend is also available in a gift basket or coffee sampler box.
