It's no secret; we love coffee. We care very deeply about it – finding it, roasting it, blending it, and certainly serving it fresh to our amazing customers (at our coffeehouse).
... But that isn't all we're about ... far from it! Beyond our love for the craft, there's another reason we started doing this all: we noticed that fair trade and organic coffee wasn't readily available in our area and we wanted to change that and make it affordable to all who wanted it. As we've said before, coffee is one of the most heavily pesticide treated crops in agriculture, and if people don't have a choice to buy organic coffee, there can be health consequences down the line. And, if we don't consider our impact on both farmers and the environment, as the Fair Trade certification accounts for, we're making coffee an unsustainable privilege rather than a force for good in the world. |
We’re honored to be putting our coffee and love of blend tinkering toward something wonderful with our Spring 2023 Community Blend--The Nest Blend.
The Nest Coffee House is a lovely cafe we work with in Deep River, Connecticut. They offer a wide range of fresh baked goods, sandwiches, and house-made ice creams, alongside their own special blend of One World coffee. But it isn’t just their food or quirky-fun gift shop that makes them special—above all, it’s their mission. Each purchase from The Nest contributes to their charity, A Little Compassion, that offers vital support to autistic and neurodiverse teens and young adults in the area. Many of us have friends, family members, and loved ones with learning disabilities who have struggled to find their paths in life due to a lack of opportunity to get meaningful workplace experience and proper socialization. A Little Compassion works to resolve these problems with an employment program that trains and hires disabled or autistic individuals in The Nest Coffee House, while offering inclusive social events designed to bring young people from across the ability spectrum together. They are also regularly engaged in local activism and awareness campaigns on behalf of children with developmental difficulties. |
